Since setting up this Castanet website I have been working on a joint funded project across Derbyshire, called Reps on Board.  Funded by Derbyshire County Council and MacIntyre, we look at the training and development needs of people (Reps) with learning disablities who go to Partnership Boards across the county.

One of our first concerns was to look at how we can make sure that everyone can be be fully included in meetings. We felt that many of us host meetings which actually exclude people who use services, and often their carers too, because of the way they are run.

We decided to put together a Toolkit with a list of Top Tips to make meetings inclusive.  We visited many Partnership Board meetings and collated a list of good practice ideas. Our focus was on Partnership Board meetings, but the tips can apply to ANY meeting.

It can be downloaded for free from the Macintyre website, but is also available on the Derbyshire County Council and the East Midlands Valuing People website (under resources).

Here is the link to the MacIntyre website - once open, just click on the Top Tips cover to see or print your own copy.  Try working through the toolkit with any group you work with who communicate through meetings.  It can really help your group to focus on the way you work together.

If you try the toolkit, please let the forum know how your group get on.

Hi
I am Julie, I work for Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust. I am hoping to support a service usersgroup for People who live in Sunderland who access the trust. I was sent your web address. I have found the equipping my supporters article and all the information on the web pages very useful.
If anyone has any advice on developing a group I would be very interested. I look forward to reading more!
Thanks Julie

 :)Hello,

We are new to the forum, so hi everyone.

We are a advocacy organisation for adults with LD and are currently facilitating a communication project with some of our self advocates, with a view to compiling a resource pack for organisations and businesses in our area, to assist them with providing a better service for people with an LD.

Can anyone please provide us with tips, information or contacts, which will assist us with our project.  Many thanks,  Bernadette and Jackie

Hi Everyone

I would like to hear from anyone who has developed any training which may help people who use services who attend partnership board meetings.  I'd be interested to hear about the content of the training and who was involved.

Also have any people who use services delivered any training to the professionals on the partnership board?

Any help or information appreciated,

Thanks

Hi,
just to say that this site looks really good and I hope that people will find it useful.
Equipping my supporters was a great project and produced some very interesting things but this site will only work as well as we know it can (and help other people too) if people come onlne and start posting to it.
I shall be looking out for you all!

Welcome to the Castanet E forum!

It was great to meet so many of you as I travelled around the country hosting the Talk and Share Shops.  I am delighted that after all the talking you now have our own website and e forum.

Whilst we have been putting the website and e forum together over the last year, many advocacy groups have sent me their questions which I have passed onto other groups for their view or advice.  Now I am pleased to say that you have your own forum to ask other groups directly.

This is your chance to ask each other for help, advice, suggestions etc  You might wish to make an announcement or tell others about your success - it is up to you how you make use of this new resource.

As Jon says, let him know if you would like any small changes to the look of website and he will see if he can help.

Best wishes

Alison Wright

Hello and welcome to all the new members of the Castanet forum.

In this early stages of the forum, can people please feedback to myself any changes they feed could be beneficial to colours and text size on the forum that everyone sees.

There is also a range of alternate themes which would change how the forum would look to you available here:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/

If you would like one adding then, again, drop me a line and I'll add the selected theme to the range of choices as although the current 'look' of the forum is the default, we can have a selection of themes for people to choose from.

Thanks
Jon
